A recessed plate filter press is made up of polypropylene plates from 470mm up to 4000mm with a concave depression (recess). Each plate has a hole in the center, and holes in all four corners. The center hole is normally larger in diameter than the corner holes and is used to feed the filter slurry into the press.
When two plates are pressed together, as the filter press is closed, the recessed cavities form a single chamber into which the slurry is fed. The recessed cavities replace the need for the separate frame in a plate and frame filter. The filtrate passes through the filter cloth and the solids stay in the chamber to form the filter cake. When the pressed is opened the filter cake falls out of the recessed chamber and is collected.
