Wedgewire
Filterfab has a full line of wedge wire products. From wedge wire screens to full lateral systems, we can work with you to find the right product for your application.
From flow distribution to carbon retention, these wedge wire products are used in many different applications. They are the ideal solution for separating solids from liquids, retaining media, filtering, sizing, dewatering, collecting and distributing.
Wedge wire screens or tubes are available in looped panels, plastic screens, welded cylindrical screens and welded panels. Intended for industrial application, wedge wire screens are made of stainless steel or plastic. We work with you to have these products custom made to your exact specifications.

Wedge-Flow
Wedge-Flow are industrial grade wedge wire water intake screens. They are constructed to resist clogging, maximize open area and ensure required particle retention through precise slot sizes. The Wedge-flow water intake screens improve uniform low velocity through the entire screen surface, which nearly eliminates screen blockage and plugging. By specifying a low through-slot velocity, leaves, algae and aquatic life are not drawn into your process stream or cover up the outer surface of the intake screen. This makes these water intake screens ideal for the water treatment and process industries.
Wedge-Flow is manufactured by an exclusive process of continuously welding an outer profile wire circumferentially in a helix pattern to a series of longitudinal support rods. The helix wrap pattern in combination with the width of the profile wire determines the slot size.
Wedge-Flow is available in cylinders from 7/16 inch to 60 inches with slot sizes starting at .002. It can be made in various stainless steel and ELC grades as well as alloy 400, C-276 and CB-20.
Screen Nozzles
Wedge-Flow screen nozzles are economical, non-clogging and ideally suited as collectors and distributors. The wedge wire screen nozzles are efficient and easily installed in false bottom installation and in combination with lateral systems.
The Flow-Cap nozzle has even more process advantages. It eliminates stagnant media on the vessel bottom, reduces abrasion of filter surface caused by vertical bed movement and has precisely controlled flow characteristics. The Flow-Cap nozzle’s domed design is ideally suited for high pressure applications and can be used as a replacement in an existing installation.
Lateral Systems
Wedge-Flow lateral systems are precision engineered to maximize bed utilization and provide uniform collection and distribution patterns. We offer complete engineering assistance in the design and development of the new systems as well as improving and replacing existing installations.
- Hub Laterals
- Used in sand filtration, activated carbon columns and demineralizer vessels up to eight feet in diameter
- Often designed in a multi-tier pattern as well as angled to conform to the vessel head configuration
- Header-Laterals
- Designed as collectors and distributors in larger vessels
- Units are custom designed for either side or central vessel configuration and can accommodate threaded, nozzle or pad connections
Flat Underdrains
Wedge-Flow flat retention screens are manufactured with slot sizes of .005 to .018 inch as is required for resin, sand and carbon columns. In addition, massive support structures, capable of withstanding up to 150 psi and higher-pressure differentials are often required.
Retaining screens are commonly installed by welding directly to the vessel and become a vital part of the process.
Custom Designed Replacement Laterals
Wedge-Flow laterals are custom designed as replacement for your existing installations. Exact replacement improves process fluid dynamics.
Engineers take note of retention, drainage patters and alloy selection to insure process improvements.
Trap Strainers
Trap strainers are fabricated to meet your exact requirements. Engineers take into account retention, fluid viscosity, specific gravity, corrosion rate and pressure drop to manufacture trap strainers that are the perfect fit for your application.
Reverse flow, backwash, gauges, drain connections and sight glasses can all be economically incorporated. Resin trap strainers conform to industry standard dimensions and are used through the water and process treatment industries.
